Crystal Art Glass a partnership of several glass dealers,
experts and
collectors. As a lot of people in the Art Glass field, we have shied
away from
the internet for many years. Having been born and raised in the days
of
paper and pen as well as draughty fairs and exhibitions. However we
have now
grasped this new media with enthusiasm.
We have all noted that the availability of good high quality Studio
Art Glass
has dropped. Fairs and exhibitions, once brimming with top class
items are often
reduced to selling unmarked pieces of dubious or unknown history, A/F
lots plus
new items available in high street chain stores. Thank heaven for
National Glass
Fairs such as those listed on our links page.
They certainly ensure that the real dealers and collectors can still
work
together to ensure the survival of our Art
This year we have concentrated our efforts in
bringing together a range of an
almost forgotten phenomenon: CAR MASCOTS.
These small sculptures were used to decorate the
radiators of expensive cars before
the Second World War and to this day their creative processing
allows us to almost
smell the era when car production began to take off. These little
sculptures on
radiators were an expression of the owner’s personality, with some
owners of a
superstitious disposition considering them to be mascots to protect
them against
the forces of evil. Times have changed and we now know all too well
that the best
protection for a car is a sensible and restrained driver. Many such
drivers are also
glass lovers, people with respect in their souls for this
traditional material and all
that is delicate.
